THSBA Teams

What are THSBA teams?

THSBA teams are free extra-curricular programs that provide high school students an opportunity to learn ballroom dance from a professional instructor. Students who participate on THSBA teams will receive instruction in multiple styles of ballroom dance and will be prepared to perform and compete in THSBA events.

How do teams work?

The teams practice one or more times a week after school at a local ballroom studio and are led by the instructors at that studio. Practices typically include a brief warm-up, instruction, and time to practice. These teams follow the same curriculum and pace as other THSBA and high school teams and participate with them in THSBA-organized events. Students are responsible for getting to and from practices. Participation on THSBA teams is open to students in grades 9-12.

Teams follow traditional high school sports seasons (i.e. Fall, Winter, Spring). Teams are reorganized each season to accommodate student turnover. If you are on a certain team one season and plan to participate the next immediate season, you will automatically remain on that same team. The 2020 Spring Season will last from the first week of March to the end of May.

While there are some general THSBA team policies. Specific policies such as attendance, required footwear, etc. are left up to the discretion of the team instructors. You will receive specific information from your instructor once the sign-up deadline passes and teams have been organized.

Why are they ‘teams’?

While these programs are essentially group ballroom dance lessons, we call them teams for performances and competitions. If students choose to participate in events, they will perform as a team. In competitions, the team whose students performed the best will be awarded. It also helps create a sense of unity, camaraderie, and teamwork among participating students.

How do I join a team?

  1. Sign up to join a team through the online form
  2. After the deadline for sign-ups has passed (March 1st) students will be organized evenly into teams based on their location.
  3. You will receive an email with your team assignment, forms to fill out, contact information for your instructor and additional details.
